a few degrees above normal

There was a time in the not-so-distant past when my patience for the game's mishaps and foibles could raise my temper a few degrees above normal. I've never been a club heaver, although I've witnessed some Olympic level launches. My problem was more an internal struggle, and as many golfers can attest, once things go wrong it can be a nasty mental spiral into the darkness of self-loathing. So what's a Neanderthal to do once the grand descent has taken over? In my case it was a tendency to fantasize the grotesque infliction of bodily harm to whomever was nearby. Not that I ever actually struck anyone, but the thought of a quick jab to the sarcophagus, or a well placed Footjoy to the nougats always somehow calmed the beast within. It wasn't long before my regular foursome became not so regular.

The path back to civility has been a long road of self-discovery that has not only improved my playing partner's enjoyment but has also improved every facet of my life. I've become a proponent of the high-priests of mental development. One such guru is David Breslow, creator of the FlowZone. As mentioned in an earlier post about becoming a more confident golfer, I focus on many of his techniques to help keep the old demons at bay. It's all about unlocking your true power as a person. Go for it!

dear golfnoise,
I have been playing golf for 27 years. I've had the good fortune to play in The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and many pro/am events across the country. My handicap has fluxuated from 7 to 12. I love competitive golf and can also play "hit and giggle" mixed golf. Believe it or not, I use the game to RELAX!! Yes, thats right. I do get upset at times, but never have I thrown a club nor lost my temper. When the "acu-swing" is not performing well, I get quiet and try to figure out what's wrong. Perhaps we all should watch Fuzzy Zoeller or Fred Funk and take a page out of their book!
Some of us get wrapped a bit too tight when the competition is on. I commend you on your relaxation ability.
