Arnie's army out for the opening tee ball
Not since 2002 has the Masters opened with an honorary opening tee shot. Thousands of Arnie's Army rolled out of bed to watch the King's ceremonial tee ball. Arnold Palmer, a four-time Masters champ and certifiable crowd favorite, debuted in 1955 and completed his 50th and final competitive round in 2005. According to a Reuters story, he pulled the shot to the left but was acknowledged with a thunderous roar of adulation from the crowd which stood 20-30 deep around the first tee. Mr. Palmer admitted to many great moments at Augusta National but none had given him a bigger thrill. And so marks the end of one of the greatest eras the game has ever known. Long live The King!
