Pre-owned golf balls
Is it really important to crack open a fresh sleeve every time you tee it up? I don't think so. I've been known to grab a well worn rock from the golf pouch, particularly if I'm having trouble keeping them dry. I've also found a healthy number of cherry-condition Pro V's that some poor sack just launched into the woods from the first tee. Don't ask why I'm in the weeds though.
Presently, with the emerging cottage industry of pre-owned golf ball sellers, I find myself repeatedly pouring over a multitude of used ball sites comparing price, quantity and condition. You can now buy premium golf balls at discounts up to 50% off of retail. That's a significant savings if your interested in playing the best balls on the market and don't want a second on the house in order to afford them. Golf Balls Review has an interesting grading system that helps determine used ball condition. Mike Petersen, GBR's golf performance professional, reports no ill effects on his performance when playing with a used balls.
That said... there is an undeniable psycho-boost at first touch of the three silky-fresh ones that you've saved from that dozen of Pro V's your brother-in-law gave you last Christmas. Bring it on!

They look brand new, but don't come in a nicely packaged sleeve. So will I miss the thrill of opening the pristine pack??? I'll let you know...
