Stack and tilt

StackandTilt.jpgA friend pointed out an interesting swing lesson in Golf Digest by two hot instructors Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett. They call it Stack and Tilt. As you would expect, it's very well defined and illustrated by Golf Digest and as with any new methodology will require a significant commitment to put it into your regular game. Once mastered, it promises solid contact and improved consistency. We'd love to hear reviews from anybody that's put it to work.

Geoff Shackleford posted on this topic earlier this month and it generated a boatload of interesting comments that are all over the board. Well worth a look. Chris at Eagle Par Birdie made an interesting comment at Geoff's site.

"I'll bet you won't see this swing from any pro over 35 and NEVER on the Champions Tour. Which means, when all is said and done, it's a swing for young golfers. By the way, where are the young recreational golfers these days, anyway? In short, the swing has no future."

And on the other side of the coin Bruce is a big fan.

"The Plummer/Bennett article gives me permission to hit the ball the way that feels best to me. The "tilt" move is new for me and really helps me load up without moving off the ball. I still have some work to do flattening my backswing but I am having the best practice sessions I have had in many years."

And finally, I was particularly moved by the pure insightfulness of yet another comment.

"When I see Tiger doing it, I will believe it..." Amen, Jacko.

So I gave this a try at the driving range this past weekend. All I can tell you is that the iron shots went at least 10 yards farther and straight. It is interesting to look at pictures from the likes of Harry Vardon to see that Plummer and Bennett are refining stuff that has been around for years. I guess I should say to my eye there are similarities.

I agree shorthitter. Maybe it isn't absolutely new, but resurrected and tweaked from an earlier era. And if it's working for you, I'd hang on for the ride.

The S&T information is 100% Mac O'Grady's information. It is not theirs and I know that because I attended Mac's Syposiums as well when Plummer and Bennett attended. They only attended a handful of seminars combined in the late 90's . Instructors who are much more knowledgeable about Mac's information than P&B and have been with Mac since 1990 are:

Bobby Laskin- Ca
Ted Britschgi-Fl,NY
Scott Wadkins AZ
Terry Okura Ca
Brendan Kennedy Fl
For starters I've been using stack and tilt for 3 years now and my game has just kept improving. Let me answer some of the questions for you so critics will shut their mouths. For one yes, plummer and bennett did attend the Mac O'Grady school, but what they teach is their own development from what they have learned and researched. Also to the comment "When I see Tiger doing it, I will believe it..." Amen, Jacko .... well if tiger woods had the best swing on tour he would not have had to undergo 3 knee operations, yes he can pound the ball but, unless he makes a swing change his career will be short..... To The Critic who says he bets he will never see the swing on the champions tour or anyone over 35 using it, I would like to ask you what the hell are you thinking? Have you ever heard of hall of famers like John cook, Joey Sindelar , Tommy ArmorIII and many more. Even legends like JACK NICOLOUS had many common things in swing styles..... Even on the PGA tour today you will see how much the swing has changed from the 90's to now. The swings are much shorter and compacted like the stack and tilt. And you can quote me that STACK AND TILT is the swing of the future for the most consistant golf.
