Shop early for the best Christmas giving

Now that we've got the fatso holiday put to bed it's time to get on with the gifting part of the season. But what would be the perfect gift for that special person in your life? Take my precious daughter for instance. Isn't she cute? Last year she received a brand new set of golf clubs for Christmas and I'm not sure we made it more than three times to the driving range. And we didn't set one foot on a real golf course! What a shame.

So how's a proud father supposed to share the great teachings of life without getting out to the course to bang the little white one around... or maybe a little pink one in her case. There's an idea. How about some shiney fresh golf balls. Well the Pro Vs may be a bit too advanced for an eight year old. But just perfect for me... Santa, if your listening. Perhaps a sophisticated stand bag. Everyone needs one of these great golf bags, right? Yea... but her new set came with the cutest little girlly bag. And it hasn't seen much use.

I'm thinking it's all about me spending some quality time and effort with her on the course.  And who cares if she doesn't show the prowess potential of Michelle Wie. She's all mine... and I can't think of a better way to spend a few hours.

Tell us about that special someone on your list. And don't forget to shop golfnoise!

Dear Noise,
I read with great intrest and a tear in my eye your editorial on the importance of the special someone in your life. It put into perspective the real meaning of the holiday season and caused me to take a step back, choose another club, re grip and take a close look as to how I wanted to continue the game. Merry Christmas

Thanks Spivie. It's good to hear from someone who knows the true value of Holiday gifting. It's all about taking care of your own.

I would definitely make some time to hit some balls and maybe play a couple of short holes with your daughter. This summer I bought my 2 1/2 year old grandson a "set" of clubs. A set at that age is a 3 wood (22 in. long), a 7 iron (20 in. long), and a putter (18 in. long). I took him to the range a number of times, and every time heads turned. There is nothing I could have spent 100 bucks on and had more fun. When he grows out of the clubs I'll just get him some more. Best news is that he now has a younger brother. He's 8 months and can't walk yet, otherwise I'd tee one up for him!

Thanks for your good comments from http://www.MedicusDriver.info.

It's good to see your unwavering dedication to the game and to the time spent with the little ones, Walt. Let me know how the 8 month old comes along.

There is so much to be learned through the game of golf, and I mean life lessons. And the sooner we teach them the better. As such, I volunteered to be a coach with the local branch of The First Tee for 2009. My son may be on his way to adulthood so my influence with him is waning, but the opportunity to work with other kids (like your gorgeous daughter) looms large. Let's commit to making all our kids better citizens. As they will soon inherit the earth.

Happy holidays. I can't wait to get back out there!
You are so right, Socal.

The great game is just dripping with life lessons waiting to be learned by young and old alike! Hmmm... do you think there may some lesson to be learned during the long wait for that first day of golf friendly weather?

It sure is easy to enjoy the festive occasion when you finish of your Christmas shopping before hand as you get time to enjoy and relax in the festivity.
