Rocco's moral victory

Rocco_Mediate.jpgThere is no doubt that Tiger makes the golf world go round but my boy Rocco Mediate deserves a special pat on the back for his lone accomplishment. That is, his stellar U.S. Open performance was enough to take him to the top of the mountain and have a good look at the winners circle. As a matter of fact, he not only glimpsed the winners circle but forced a broken Tiger through an extra knee-jerking nineteen holes on Monday to capture it.

So let's give credit where credit is due and pay the appropriate homage to the forty-five year old crowd pleasing performance that nearly toppled the king of the game. Everybody knows that Tiger, on any given Sunday could and probably would blow Rocco off the links. But this time the old guard stood fast and forced the much admired top-dog to play to the bitter end and beyond to earn the trophy he wanted so bad!

Don't you love it when the game gives us what appears to be a completely upside down circumstance. Rocco was the one defying gravity this time, and that gives some street-cred to the guys who aren't super-young and super-fit!

Well said, Noisemaker. As much as pro golf revolves around Tiger, it would be much more compelling if more guys could put up a fight like Rocco. It was truly great stuff.
Noisemaker like some many of us old guys I was really cheering for Rocco. But we should not forget that Rocco works with Jimmy Ballard who is a throw back to another era (70's & 80's) and sheds light on the axiom that good instruction stands the test of time.
Rocco has put up the best fight yet against the number one golfer in the world. But it obviously was still is not good enough. Rocco is consistent but Tiger is determined. He overcomes his inconsistency with his determination. In order to beat him, I believe that the other players on the Tour need to have both! They should take advantage of him being gone and get determined to be better.
